Collagen Tripeptide to Moisturizes the Skin

Lately, people are more concerned to improve their skin, hair, and nail health. One of the most popular ingredients to improve hair, skin, and nails is collagen. It is mostly found in the market in powder and tablet form. What is the function of collagen? It is the most abundant protein in the human body that can be found in the bones, muscles, skin, and tendons. In skin, collagen gives smoothness, elasticity, and firmness to skin, but the production of collagen declines with age.

What’s going to happen following the decline of collagen production in skin? It would lead to wrinkles and sagging skin. Therefore, people tried to boost collagen level by consuming collagen products. However, most people have no idea about important components in collagen. Collagen is composed of triple helix configuration (Tripeptide) of amino acids in Gly-X-Y form. The most common amino acids for X and Y in collagen are Proline (Pro) and Hydroxyproline (Hyp). Glycine-Proline-Hydroxyproline (GPH) contributes to 57% total amino acids in collagen. Therefore, GPH plays a very important role in collagen.

It is also shown in a study that Collagen Tripeptide with GPH has higher absorption level to blood plasma compared to Collagen without GPH. Another study also showed that consumption of 1 gram Collagen Tripeptide with GPH per day for 12 weeks resulted in higher transepidermal water loss (TEWL) than placebo. High TEWL level indicates the ability of skin to retain water molecules to keep the skin moisturized and hydrated. Collagen Tripeptide with GPH is more beneficial compared to unstandardized collagen.
